Art Practical: Introduction to Figure Drawing

Adding figures to a drawing or painting can add life, movement and help you to create more dynamic artwork. This short online course is designed to give you the guidelines you need to create successful figure drawings feeling confident that you’ve got the proportions correct. You will also spend time considering how the posture of your characters can be used to help convey the mood or message of the painting. We’ll explore ways to give your figures character and how clothing will hang depending on the posture or pose of your figures. The tutor will give you useful guides and exercises to help you to understand and will be there to support and encourage you. Some basic art materials such as a pencil and paper will be required, and a suggested materials list will be available to view on Canvas prior to the start of the course. By the end of the course, you will be able to add figures to a painting and if you wish to further your learning by attending a life drawing class, you will have the foundational skills in place to proceed with confidence.
