Course overview

As the everyday lives of millions of people continue to be affected by digital technologies, does the thought of gaining some new skills to help you cope with this rapidly changing environment appeal to you? If the answer is “Yes”, then keep reading. Here at the WEA, we have been busy developing the third in our series of digital skills courses. Our goal is to help you to feel more confident and better able to tackle tasks typical of those you may encounter in your personal life, and the world of work. To comfortably work through the material on this course you will need recent experience of using a computer or laptop and software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Course description

Following on from our very well-received and popular Digital Skills for Everyday Living: Beginner and Intermediate courses, this third course is designed to further develop the computer skills of learners who have completed the previous two courses, or anyone with a basic understanding of how to use computers who wants to gain some new skills.

During this Level 1 course you will engage in a variety of tasks designed to give you experience of using a computer and software to aid you in your everyday life and beyond. Topics we will be covering include:

• Budgeting: Using Excel to create a personal budget spreadsheet for income and expenses calculations.

• Password managers: Using this vital technology to ensure that the passwords you need are as effective as possible and stored safely for use at any time.

• Artificial intelligence: Using artificial intelligence (ChatGPT) to enhance your skills and get support with a variety of tasks.

• Planning a holiday: Working with a variety of digital tools to efficiently plan and cost a holiday.

As with all our courses at the WEA, class sizes are intentionally small to ensure that you get the support you need, both from your friendly and knowledgeable tutor, and your fellow learners. If what you have read so far has aroused your interest, please don’t hesitate to contact us for further details.
