Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.
Course overview
Course description
This is a gardening course which focusses on how to grow your own food. You’ll get ideas and practical advice about what to grow in a North-East Garden. Learn about vegetable garden layout and seasonal crops. Develop your knowledge about compost. Consider flowering plants to encourage pollination and learn about planting from seed. We’ll practice our skills by planting in the outdoor raised beds and polytunnel and discuss the different benefits which these bring.
This course is ideal for beginners and those with some experience. All you need is a love of the outdoors. Our experienced tutor will be on-hand to help with information, practical demonstrations and advice.
Depending on your needs, there are various study options after this course. You may consider a foraging course or progress to a gardening qualification such as the Level 1 occupational Studies in the Workplace – Gardening Award.
This course is free to participants living within the Coalfields Regeneration Trust Area.
