Course description

This is a face-to-face course in a purposely designed sewing studio. You will develop your knowledge and skills on calculations, using a sewing machine, taking measurements of dress making garments, exploring patterns, preparing fabric for cutting, stitching fabric, making seams and budgeting and accounting for costs associated with textiles and sewing.

Widen your knowledge of fabrics. Explore at least one garment and produce samples, recordings and photos for your folder (online and on paper) every week.

In addition to language structures; numeracy citizenship, employability and digital skills will also be embedded in the programme to help you develop valuable transferable skills.

You will require internet access so that you can access the WEA Virtual Learning Environment, Canvas. Canvas will be used to document and store evidence of your work electronically.

Assessment of learning will be done regularly throughout the course so that you can map your academic progression with us at the WEA.

Information, advice and guidance will also be given to enable further course/professional progression to enable you to progress into other study areas or prepare you for the world of employment.

We don't want anything to stand in your way when it comes to bringing Adult learning within reach so if you need anything to support you to achieve your goals then speak to one of our education experts during your enrolment journey. Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need.
