It highlights that adults tend to overestimate their media literacy skills and that there are barriers to learning more such as time constraints and a lack of awareness of what is available. 

WEA courses teach critical thinking, online safety and digital skills more broadly and we’ve developed a free course, available to anyone, on the subject of recognising and countering misinformation. We also regularly embed digital skills into other courses to make them more accessible.

We want the Government to recognise the adult education sector as a trusted and strategically positioned partner in promoting media literacy. We fear cuts of up to 6% in the skills budget will undermine this good work.
