Course overview

Are you noticing the changes to our traditional British weather? Do the four seasons still exist in Britain? Climate change is leading to higher summer temperatures and for our gardens to survive, changes are needed, so we can all continue to enjoy the flowers and colours we are used to. Our gardens and our traditional hanging baskets are one of the things we can change without losing the beauty to suit the future climate. This one off session will look at plants for hanging baskets that may be more suitable in the changing climate; whilst still providing colour, contrast and enjoyment for the Summer season.

Course description

Are your 'traditional' hanging baskets struggling in the hotter temperatures? Perhaps you are fed up with having to water your baskets frequently, aware that you should really be conserving water rather than using more? Have you had to take your hanging baskets down and move them somewhere shadier just to avoid the sun burning them to a crisp? You may be finding your traditional ‘go to’ plants that you have used year in; year out; in your baskets, are struggling to survive in the increased heat?

The climate is changing and we must change our traditional gardening techniques with it in order for our hanging baskets and gardens to survive and thrive. Join me on this informative and fun, one off session, to explore plants that you may have never considered before, to add to your baskets. Plants that will still give you colour, contrast, reflect heat and retain moisture, to give you an unusual, attractive hanging basket that your friends, family and neighbours will envy and soon copy. Baskets that will not need your undivided attention day in and day out. Baskets of the future.
