Are you working in Adult Education and interested in developing your skills?

Or are you hoping to find work in the Adult Education sector and looking for a relevant qualification?

If so, the Professional Development Award (PDA) in Adult Learning in Scotland: an Introduction at SCQF level 6 is an exciting new qualification that could provide a solution.

It’s a new qualification that introduces learners to policy contexts, theories and methods, as well as covering practical areas such as the planning, delivering and evaluation of adult learning sessions with individuals and groups. The units in the PDA align with the Community Learning and Development Standards Council for Scotland (CLDSC) ethics and competencies which inform the practice of all community workers.

The PDA will help employers meet skills gaps and provide continuing professional development for staff, while learners will gain knowledge and skills needed for progression in the workplace. It is also available to people who are in training and who wish to gain employment in the adult learning sector. There are several progression routes to further study. This is a level 6 qualification, and you will need to be confident in your ability to study at that level.

The PDA is made up of two units

Adult Learning in Scotland: Context

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
· Describe a range of approaches, policies and legislation underpinning adult learning in Scotland.
· Compare the variety of settings where adult learning may be delivered.
· Outline the skills and qualities expected to effectively undertake the role and responsibilities of an adult learning practitioner.

Adult learning in Scotland: Methodology and Practice

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
· Describe the adult learning methodologies and strategies needed to engage effectively with adult learners.
· Plan an adult learning session with an individual or group.
· Deliver an adult learning session to an individual or group.
· Evaluate the effectiveness of the adult learning session
During the unit you will plan and deliver a short adult learning session.
