This adult English course helps you develop your language skills through real-life situations. Functional Skills level 1 is a government-funded accredited English course for adults. Functional Skills qualifications are free if you don't already have a GCSE in English or Maths at grades A*-C, or 4-9. We'll check your level and any previous qualifications before you start. This course is designed to help you build confidence, understand workplace expectations and prepare for employment. Across the interactive units, you will develop essential skills for work and life, including communication, teamwork, resilience, and professional etiquette. Activities include storytelling, vision boards, group challenges, wellbeing planning, and mock interviews. You will also explore equality and diversity, health and safety and strategies for managing stress. The course concludes with creating a personalised progression plan to support your next steps. You will feel more confident, informed, and ready for the working environment

English for Learning and Life is a pre‑entry course designed to help learners build the early language, confidence and study skills needed for everyday life in the UK and for progression to the Get Ready for ESOL course. Learners develop essential skills such as recognising familiar words, understanding simple classroom language, and using basic English to communicate needs in routine situations. The course introduces simple reading and writing tasks, supports learners to build confidence in group activities and helps them develop early learning habits. It provides a supportive first step for learners who are new to English or new to learning.

This course is funded by the Department for Education and only open to residents living in non devolved authorities.  This short 6‑hour course introduces adults to the essential first aid skills needed to respond to common accidents and emergencies in the home. Across three practical sessions, learners explore how to recognise and deal with everyday injuries, support children safely, and know what to do while waiting for professional help. The course covers simple, effective actions for situations such as burns, bleeding, choking, minor head injuries and sudden illness. Learners build confidence through demonstrations, guided practice and discussion, helping them feel more prepared to keep their family safe.

You will explore what employers look for, how to prepare effectively and how to present yourself with confidence. Through group discussions, role-play, and mock interviews, you will practise answering common questions and use positive body language. English Conversation (Pre Entry) is a gentle introduction to speaking and listening for adults who are new to learning English. The course focuses on building confidence, recognising familiar words, and taking part in short, supported conversations. Learners practise simple greetings, everyday phrases and basic listening tasks in a relaxed, friendly environment. Activities use pictures, real life objects and guided practice to help learners communicate in familiar situations. This course is ideal for learners who need reassurance, confidence building and a positive first step before progressing to an Entry 1 ESOL level course such as English For Everyday Life.

You will be guided to create a simple CV or improve one you already have, using your skills, experience, and interests. Support is available at every stage, and activities are broken down into clear, manageable steps. You will also try basic job‑search tasks, such as looking at job adverts and identifying what skills employers want. You will have the chance to practise answering simple interview questions, helping you feel more confident talking about yourself in a positive way. By the end of the course, you will leave with a clearer CV, increased confidence, and practical knowledge to help you move closer to employment or further training.

ESOL courses help you learn basic English for life in the UK and improve your chances of finding work or study options. This ESOL entry 2 reading course builds on skills you learnt at entry 1.
