Through activities such as the Shield of Life and exploring the 7 Elements of Society, you will identify personal barriers and consider how your life experiences shape who you are. You will develop key skills including communication, public speaking, problem‑solving, and CV writing, while learning the importance of assertive behaviour. The course concludes with creating a visual representation of your core values, helping you understand their impact and how they guide your future.

First Steps in ESOL introduces learners to the foundations of English needed for early communication in everyday situations. The course focuses on building confidence with essential vocabulary, recognising key sounds, and understanding simple spoken instructions. Learners practise using single words and short phrases to share basic personal information and take part in highly supported classroom activities. Visuals, repetition and practical tasks help learners understand meaning and develop early listening and speaking skills. You will be guided to create a simple CV or improve one you already have, using your skills, experience, and interests. Support is available at every stage, and activities are broken down into clear, manageable steps. You will also try basic job‑search tasks, such as looking at job adverts and identifying what skills employers want. You will have the chance to practise answering simple interview questions, helping you feel more confident talking about yourself in a positive way. By the end of the course, you will leave with a clearer CV, increased confidence, and practical knowledge to help you move closer to employment or further training.
