This short course is designed for learners currently studying ESOL who want to learn more about the language and skills that will help you manage your money, make good shopping decisions, and understand budgeting. The course will look at the principles of managing money in everyday situations like comparing prices on the high street, working out the best deal for transport to get to work or learning, or the cost of cooking a meal. This course will take place at St Richard's Community Centre, Egmont Road, Brighton and Hove, BN3 7FP. This course is supported by the Government-funded Multiply program which means that it is free for any learner with a Brighton and Hove postcode.

Stress affects most people in the country at some point in life. Understanding the harmful effects of stress is essential to maintaining good mental health and well-being. This stress awareness course can help you recognise and deal with stress when it happens. This mental health awareness training helps you understand what you and others may be experiencing. It is also useful if you work in a support role such as mentor, counsellor, or carer. It will teach you important skills for care jobs if you want to work in adult social care.

The CV writing workshop will empower Department for Work and Pensions claimants to create a new CV or update an existing CV with the help of an experienced tutor. You will learn the basic concepts and importance of an effective CV, ensuring that it includes personal details, information on education, work experience, key skills and references. Where appropriate you will receive support to tailor CVs to specific job roles with a view to improve prospects for being invited for an interview. It will be an opportunity to obtain individual feedback, review drafted CVs and address any individual queries and concerns.

The course will evaluate the major painting works of Raphael, and consider them in relation to other instances of Italian High Renaissance art. As far as possible, we will place the works back into their original contexts. We will evaluate Raphael’s distinctive contributions to the art of Central Italy (especially in relation to his rivalries with other leading artistic figures, such as Michelangelo), and will analyse a number of key works in detail, paying particular attention to issues of patronage, of original purpose and Raphael’s careful construction of an individual style. The course will be discussion-based, so that together as a group, we will test out and consider a variety of ways of interpreting how the paintings would have worked, and what they would have meant for viewers, in the contexts of their own time.

Photography is a way of seeing, and showing how you see the world around you. Smartphone photography has become increasingly popular. On average, people around the globe take over a trillion photos each year and according to research 92% of these photographs are taken with smartphones! This course will allow you to explore how to use your phone in a more creative way. Instead of taking just one photo of a subject you’re interested in, you will be encouraged to take 10, 20, or even 30 photographs then spend some time looking at your pictures to see which ones you like the best, and why. You will explore what makes an image stand out, looking for unique or unexpected angles, playing with composition to help you create illusions of depth and height. You will also discover how it feels to go out on shoots, visiting different location local to Weston-Super-Mare seafront. At the course’s conclusion, you will experiment with different post making methods, including photomontage, illustration, drawing and hand colouring on to photographs in order to help you produce a Photobook, using a series of images that tell a story about your experience of living in Weston - Super -Mare.

A workshop designed for staff working for Sunderland City Council and Unison Members. Useful if you are new to working within the UK, or if you work with team members who are from outside of the UK. This is an engaging, fun, 2-hour interactive workshop. The aim is to promote a fulfilling, positive workplace experience through reducing fears and cultural barriers. You will learn useful tips to help promote better understanding and clear communication with your colleagues. Delivered by a tutor who has personal experience of adapting to life and work within the UK and the challenges and rewards that can be brought by the experience.

Our Digital Skills for Beginners Course is designed to help people gain basic digital skills and improve their digital literacy to make the most of our online world. Our 4 day course will provide an introduction to using a laptop and digital devices. Topics will include online safety and dealing with online scams, connecting to Wi-Fi, creating an email account & accessing information online safely, using a text editing application such as MSWord and application editing tools.
