The idea of this course is to give you extra study time to acquire the knowledge you’ll need for entry 3 maths. This is a preparatory maths course for people who are looking to progress to entry 3 functional skills courses. It is a non-accredited adult maths course. A great way to spend a Thursday morning! Whether you are a seasoned drummer or just curious to have a go, this practical workshop in African drumming will inspire you with music and culture. Our experienced tutor will guide the group to play the Djembe drums to create simple beats and harmonies. Let go of stress and end the morning on a high note!

This is the next stage course for learners of intermediate ESOL level to continue their ESOL classes online. During the course you will continue to learn English that will help you better explore and take part in your local community and to help build your employability skills for work. Before you can join the course, your English skills will be checked with a short test so that the tutor can make sure that the class is right for you. This course is for people with some English already. You do not need any ESOL qualifications to join.

This course is in partnership with Rainbow Services. The 8-hour paediatric first aid course provides comprehensive training on the essential skills, numeracy and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider. Participants will learn the critical role they play in emergency situations involving infants and children and also how maths plays a role in that. Core topics covered include CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), including both resuscitation techniques and defibrillation procedures tailored for paediatric cases. Additionally, the course covers the management of seizures, choking incidents, wounds, bites, and stings commonly encountered in paediatric emergencies. Through hands-on practice and theoretical instruction, participants gain the confidence and skills necessary to effectively respond to paediatric medical crises and potentially save lives.

This course aims to equip adult learners with the language proficiency and employability skills necessary to pursue job opportunities and succeed in the workplace. Through a combination of language instruction, practical exercises, and real-world applications, ESOL learners will gain confidence in their English language abilities and readiness for employment.

Perfect your reading skills in English while practising critical thinking. This is a wonderful opportunity to develop your reading to help you improve your English language skills . Improved reading and comprehension skills can open doors to work and study options in the UK. This ESOL reading course builds on skills you are learning at level 1 and focusses on reading interesting and variety of texts which will improve your vocabulary , grammar and help you with future Esol / functional skills exams . This is an English course for adults and is aimed at speakers of other languages.

Confidence in English is a taster course tailored for learners thinking about working towards accredited ESOL.

This short course is designed for learners currently studying ESOL who want to learn more about the language and skills that will help you manage your money, make good shopping decisions, and understand budgeting. The course will look at the principles of managing money in everyday situations like comparing prices on the high street, working out the best deal for transport to get to work or learning, or the cost of cooking a meal. This course will take place at the Honeycroft Centre, St Barnabas Hall, Hove, BN3 3WF. This course is supported by the Government-funded Multiply program which means that it is free for any learner with a Brighton postcode.

Part of the WEA Art and About Festival 2024! As part of the Festival, come and discover the highlights of the architecture of Greenwich. Having been a royal place of residence for several centuries, this part of London is rich in history. In this field-trip, we will study the architecture of the Queen’s House, its interior and exterior designs making it a beautiful example of Renaissance architecture. We will then turn our attention to the Royal Naval College and St Alfege’s, prime examples of English classical architecture. In this course we will read and discuss two books by Stella Gibbons, an author whose reputation as a comic writer rests on one well-known satire of popular novels about rural life: Cold Comfort Farm (1932). In fact she wrote more than 30 novels, though most have been out of print until recently. We will be focusing on two of Gibbons’ comic novels with contrasting settings: rural Sussex in Cold Comfort Farm and suburban Hampstead in Westwood (1946). Through friendly and accessible discussions of both texts, we will learn more about their stories, characters and themes, and consider the nature of their author’s distinctive comic voice.
