Course overview

This online course will be taught by an experienced Pre-Level 6 tutor. Learners will engage in a lesson through Zoom with the intention to develop a deepened understanding of how to communicate with someone who is deaf. This course focusses on learning for education and also learning that engages and builds communities. Learners will take part in activities that will help them to gain more insight and knowledge into the daily struggles of their deaf peers.

Course description

This course will be taught through the use of Zoom and Canvas as an online learning platform. All learners will be fully supported by their tutor and no prior learning is needed to attend this course. The course focusses on the daily challenges experienced by the deaf community. The tutor will teach you some basic vocabulary for greetings and you will further explore the barriers that deaf people face in their daily lives. During the session you will take part in activities involving break out activities and full support will be provided to ensure you are able to take part in each element of the course. Captions will be displayed in the session to assist learning for anyone needing this additional support. You will develop a deeper understanding of the deaf world and will gain useful knowledge and insight of how you can communicate with people that are deaf. The course will be exciting and interactive and will hopefully fulfil you with the passion to want to learn more about this amazing language.
