This course is funded by the East Midlands Combined County Authority and is only available to residents living within the East Midlands Combined County Authority area. Practical English Skills (Entry 2) helps learners develop more confident English for everyday communication at home, in the community and in simple work‑related situations. The course builds on Entry 1 skills and introduces longer conversations, short texts and straightforward writing tasks. Learners practise giving information, asking questions, understanding short explanations and reading everyday materials such as notes, messages, leaflets and timetables. Activities focus on real‑life situations including making arrangements, asking for help, following instructions and talking about daily routines. The course supports learners to communicate with greater independence and prepares them for progression to Entry 3 ESOL.

Social Media Awareness is a course designed to help you understand what social media is, how it is used and how to stay safe online. You will explore popular platforms, identify online risks and recognise positive digital behaviours. The course includes practical demonstrations on privacy settings and builds confidence in using social media safely. Through simple scenarios and discussions, you will develop your understanding of responsible online communication. By the end of the course, you will be able to make informed decisions about what they share, who they interact with, and how to protect themselves while using social media.

ESOL for Life in the UK helps lower level ESOL learners build the language and cultural knowledge needed to take part confidently in everyday life. The course introduces key UK services such as schools, healthcare and local councils, and explores common celebrations and public holidays. Learners develop simple language to talk about rights, responsibilities and daily routines. Activities include discussions, matching tasks, short texts and guided speaking practice. The course supports learners to describe personal experiences, understand how life in the UK works and communicate more independently in familiar situations.

You will take part in activities such as group discussions, goal setting, role play, and simple planning tasks. Step by step, you will build your confidence, share experiences, and celebrate your progress in a safe and encouraging environment. By the end of the course, you will leave with practical skills and a personal action plan to help you take your next steps.

This Conversation with Baking course supports pre‑entry ESOL learners to build confidence in speaking and listening through fun, practical baking activities. Each session introduces simple vocabulary, short instructions and everyday conversation linked to baking, ingredients and kitchen routines. Learners work together to prepare easy bakes, share ideas and practise language in a relaxed, supportive environment. The course promotes wellbeing by encouraging social interaction, creativity and enjoyment while developing essential communication skills. No reading or writing is required beyond individual ability, and all activities are designed to be accessible, confidence‑building and enjoyable.

Activities include storytelling, vision boards, group challenges, wellbeing planning, and mock interviews. You will also explore equality and diversity, health and safety and strategies for managing stress. The course concludes with creating a personalised progression plan to support your next steps.
