This fun and supportive course helps ESOL learners improve their English through creative writing. You will explore simple ways to write short stories, poems, and personal experiences. The course builds your vocabulary, grammar, and confidence in expressing ideas. You’ll learn how to describe people, places, and feelings, and share your imagination in English. No previous writing experience is needed – just a willingness to try! Through group activities and writing tasks, you’ll enjoy learning English in a creative and relaxed way.

Employability & Skills: ESOL for Employability (Group 1) Improve your English language skills while preparing for work in the UK with this practical and supportive course designed for ESOL learners. Employability & Skills: ESOL for Employability helps adults develop the communication skills, vocabulary, and confidence needed to succeed in job applications, interviews, and workplace settings.

You will explore personal strengths, overcome barriers, and develop positive communication techniques that enhance confidence in real-life situations. Alongside this, the course introduces practical tools for job searching, CV writing, interview skills, and workplace expectations. Interactive activities, group discussions, and reflective tasks ensure you feel supported as they grow. By the end of the programme, you will feel more empowered, more prepared, and more confident in taking the next steps towards employment success.

This course is funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and is only available to residents living within the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority area. Develop skills to help you read, write, and communicate in English with confidence. Improved language skills open doors to work and study opportunities and help you learn key skills for employment. Level 1 functional skills courses are not like learning English at school. They’re created by adults for adults, and aim to teach you practical English skills through real-life situations. Strengthen your writing skills and learn reading techniques to help you tackle everyday situations at work or while studying. This adult English course helps you develop your language skills through real-life situations. Functional Skills level 1 is a government-funded accredited English course for adults. Functional Skills qualifications are free if you don't already have a GCSE in English or Maths at grades A*-C, or 4-9. We'll check your level and any previous qualifications before you start. This ensures you are on the correct course.

This ESOL course is designed to help learners develop basic English skills for the workplace. The first session of this course will be online and the second session will be at Tate Britain. Join a creative writing online workshop writing poems about Tate Britain artworks, then visit Tate Britain to find your artworks and for more poetic inspiration with a published poet as your guide. You will meet up with those you met online on the morning before and respond to more art with further inspired writing. Ekphrastic poetry has come to mean poetry about works of art. You could describe the scene in a painting, what happened before, what happens after it and what is going on outside the frame; or write a monologue for the sitter in a portrait, or for the painter; or make a sculpture come to life. You will meet up with likeminded people and come away from this course with several inspired poems.

Life and Work in the UK introduces new arrivals to the essential language, knowledge and practical skills needed to settle confidently into everyday life and early work situations. The course supports Entry ESOL learners to understand key UK systems such as housing, healthcare, education and local services, while also exploring basic workplace expectations and routines. Learners develop simple English for asking for information, understanding written notices, completing short forms and describing personal experiences. Activities focus on real life tasks, cultural awareness and building confidence to navigate life and work in the UK more independently.

This course is funded by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and is only available to residents living within the Greater Manchester Combined Authority area. English for Learning and Life is a pre‑entry course designed to help learners build the early language, confidence and study skills needed for everyday life in the UK and for progression to the Get Ready for ESOL course. Learners develop essential skills such as recognising familiar words, understanding simple classroom language, and using basic English to communicate needs in routine situations. The course introduces simple reading and writing tasks, supports learners to build confidence in group activities and helps them develop early learning habits. It provides a supportive first step for learners who are new to English or new to learning.
