Employability & Skills: Language at work

This ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course is designed to support adults with little or no English language skills who are seeking employment in the UK. The course introduces essential vocabulary and simple sentence structures used in everyday work environments. Learners will practise speaking, listening, reading, and writing through interactive activities focused on job-related situations such as applying for jobs, attending interviews, understanding basic instructions, and communicating with colleagues or customers.

The course also explores cultural expectations in UK workplaces, helping learners understand common behaviours, etiquette, and communication styles. No previous English experience is required, and the learning environment is friendly, supportive, and paced to suit beginners.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to introduce themselves, ask and answer simple questions, follow basic instructions, and complete simple forms. They will also gain confidence in using English in real-life employment contexts and be better prepared to take the next steps in their job search or workplace integration.
