Level of study
Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.

Course description
Get Ready for ESOL is a pre entry course designed for adults who are new to English and need support before joining an accredited ESOL Skills for Life qualification. This 24 hour course helps you develop the essential speaking, listening, reading and writing skills needed for everyday life in the UK. It is suitable for complete beginners and provides a gentle, supportive introduction to learning English.
During the course, you will learn how to take part in short conversations using familiar words and phrases, and how to understand simple spoken information such as announcements, instructions and directions. You will also practise reading short texts, signs and everyday information, and writing simple words and phrases related to familiar topics. The course also helps you develop useful strategies, such as asking someone to repeat or explain something when you do not understand.
This course prepares you for progression onto the accredited ESOL Skills for Life Entry 1 qualifications in Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing. It helps you build confidence, develop good learning habits and understand what to expect from ESOL study.
