Course overview
Course description
English Conversation – Level 1 is designed for learners who want to develop fluent, confident and effective spoken English for everyday life, community participation and work‑related situations. The course supports learners to express opinions clearly, give explanations, describe experiences in detail and take part in extended discussions. Learners practise asking more detailed questions, responding appropriately and using a wider range of vocabulary and expressions to communicate with clarity and confidence.
Activities include structured group discussions, problem‑solving tasks, role‑play and real‑life communication scenarios. These activities help learners build fluency, accuracy and confidence when speaking in more complex or unfamiliar situations. Learners also develop strategies for managing conversations, clarifying meaning, building confidence and communicating effectively with different people.
Listening tasks support learners to understand longer spoken texts, follow explanations and respond with greater accuracy. The course also encourages learners to participate actively in discussions, share ideas and contribute to group tasks in a meaningful way.
By the end of the course, learners will feel more confident taking part in extended conversations, expressing ideas clearly and communicating effectively in a range of everyday, community and work‑related settings. They will be well prepared for further ESOL study or opportunities that require strong spoken English skills.
