Since 2014 the WEA and Lloyds Banking Group have been in partnership to provide adult education across the country – focusing initially on employability sessions in regions with most need, supporting learners with CV writing, interview skills, job search, and building confidence. As part of Lloyds Banking Group volunteering programme, their staff joined the classes to help facilitate activities with our students.
The partnership then grew to offer digital literacy education in response to the growing digital divide. The free provision enabled our adult learners to set up their email accounts, get online to access public services, and gain confidence to navigate the digital world on their own. As a result, many students with these essential digital skills were able to pursue additional education with us and other providers.
The pandemic forced us to move the majority of courses online, while the need for digital inclusion and employability support increased. Lloyds Banking Group supported us with development of our two national projects (Digital Lifeline and Facing Change Together) launched at the end of 2020, and regional projects aimed at helping local causes.
