This course is funded by the Department for Education and only open to residents living in non devolved authorities. Societal Norms and Culture in the UK introduces Entry 1–Entry 2 ESOL learners to everyday cultural expectations, social behaviours and key values that shape life in the UK. The course helps learners use simple English to take part in daily conversations, make small talk and ask for help in public places. Learners explore major UK celebrations, British values and common social behaviours such as queuing and punctuality. The course also supports learners to identify where to find help for personal safety, legal issues and community support. Activities focus on practical communication, cultural awareness and confidence in real‑life situations.

Conversation with Crafting

This course is funded by the Department for Education and only open to residents living in non devolved authorities. Conversating with Crafting is a 12 session course designed to help adult ESOL learners build confidence in speaking and listening while enjoying a range of simple, creative craft activities. Taught over 24 guided learning hours, the course offers a fun, low pressure way for learners to return to the classroom, practise everyday English and develop practical craft skills. Each session combines conversation, creativity and wellbeing, giving learners the chance to talk about materials, techniques and ideas while working on accessible craft projects. The focus is on communication, confidence building and enjoying the social, calming benefits of creative activity.

Practical English Skills

This course is funded by the East Midlands Combined County Authority and is only available to residents living within the East Midlands Combined County Authority area. Practical English Skills (Entry 2) helps learners develop more confident English for everyday communication at home, in the community and in simple work‑related situations. The course builds on Entry 1 skills and introduces longer conversations, short texts and straightforward writing tasks. Learners practise giving information, asking questions, understanding short explanations and reading everyday materials such as notes, messages, leaflets and timetables. Activities focus on real‑life situations including making arrangements, asking for help, following instructions and talking about daily routines. The course supports learners to communicate with greater independence and prepares them for progression to Entry 3 ESOL.

Get ready for ESOL (Skills for Life)

This course is funded by the Greater London Combined Authority and is only available to residents living within the Greater London Combined Authority area. Get Ready for ESOL is a pre‑entry course for adults who are at the very beginning of their English language journey. This 24‑hour course helps you build the essential skills you need before joining an accredited Entry 1 ESOL qualification. You will learn to take part in short conversations, understand simple spoken information, read everyday words and signs, and write basic words and phrases. You will also develop strategies to ask for repetition or clarification when you do not understand. This course provides a supportive introduction to English and prepares you for further ESOL study.
