This course is open to learners in the Greater London Authority. In this conversation class, you will learn to take part in short conversations, understand simple spoken information, read everyday words and signs, and write basic words and phrases. This course provides a supportive introduction to English and prepares you for further ESOL study.

Essential Skills for Work is a practical and engaging two-hour taster course designed for ESOL learners who want to build confidence and develop the key skills needed for employment. The course focuses on essential workplace skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and professional behaviour. Learners will improve their English language skills while exploring what employers expect in the workplace. Through interactive activities, discussions, and real-life workplace scenarios, learners will gain a better understanding of how to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, follow instructions, and present themselves professionally. By the end of the session, learners will feel more confident about taking the next steps towards employment, volunteering, further training, or career development.

It will help you learn to write in English to study, work, and live in the UK. Entry 1 ESOL courses help people who are just starting to learn English. It will help you gain confidence to write basic sentences in English. There are also reading and speaking & listening courses at this level. Activities focus on real‑life tasks such as making arrangements, giving opinions, understanding procedures and writing clear messages. This course prepares learners for Level 1 ESOL course such as English for Work and Study or entry‑level employment.

This course prepares learners for further ESOL study and progression to Entry 2 ESOL level courses such as Practical English Skills.

English Conversation (Pre Entry) is a gentle introduction to speaking and listening for adults who are new to learning English. The course focuses on building confidence, recognising familiar words, and taking part in short, supported conversations. Learners practise simple greetings, everyday phrases and basic listening tasks in a relaxed, friendly environment. Activities use pictures, real life objects and guided practice to help learners communicate in familiar situations. This course is ideal for learners who need reassurance, confidence building and a positive first step before progressing to an Entry 1 ESOL level course such as English For Everyday Life.

English Conversation – Entry 2 helps learners develop confidence speaking in a wider range of everyday situations. The course focuses on using simple sentences to talk about daily life, ask and answer questions and share personal experiences. Learners practise listening for key information, expressing likes and dislikes and taking part in short group discussions. Activities include role‑play, pair work and practical speaking tasks to build fluency and confidence. The course supports learners who can use basic English but want to develop clearer, more confident communication in everyday conversations.
