Course overview
Course description
Conversating with Crafting is a practical and enjoyable course that supports adult learners whose first language is not English, in order to develop their English speaking and listening skills through hands on creative activities. Over 12 two hour sessions, learners take part in simple craft projects such as collage, paper craft, card making, fabric work and mixed media activities. Each session is designed to encourage conversation, build confidence and create a relaxed, friendly environment where learners can practise everyday English in a natural, meaningful way.
The course focuses on communication through creativity. Learners talk about materials, colours, textures and techniques, share ideas, ask questions and describe their work. Activities are accessible and low pressure, with no expectation of artistic ability. Instead, the emphasis is on self expression, wellbeing and enjoying the process of making something by hand. Crafting supports relaxation, reduces stress and helps learners reconnect with learning in a positive, supportive setting.
The tutor guides learners through step by step projects, modelling useful language and encouraging learners to speak, listen and collaborate. Sessions also explore how creative activities can support wellbeing, confidence and social connection. By the end of the course, learners will have developed new craft skills, increased their confidence using English and experienced the wellbeing benefits of creative learning.
