Course description

English Conversation – Entry 3 is designed for learners who want to develop more fluent, confident and detailed spoken English for everyday and community situations. The course supports learners to use connected sentences to describe experiences, express opinions and take part in short discussions on familiar topics such as work, learning, community life, daily routines and personal interests. Learners practise asking follow‑up questions, giving reasons for their ideas and responding appropriately in conversation.

The course includes a range of practical speaking activities such as group discussions, role‑play, listening tasks and real‑life communication scenarios. These activities help learners build fluency, accuracy and confidence when speaking with others. Learners also develop strategies for clarifying meaning, checking understanding and contributing effectively to group conversations.

Vocabulary development is an important part of the course, helping learners use a wider range of expressions and communicate more independently. Learners practise listening for detail, responding to longer spoken texts and participating in conversations that require more interaction and explanation.

By the end of the course, learners will feel more confident taking part in discussions, expressing ideas clearly and using connected sentences to communicate in a range of everyday situations. They will be well prepared to progress to other entry 3 ESOL courses.
