Course description

English Conversation – Entry 2 is designed for learners who can use basic English and want to develop greater confidence and fluency in everyday conversations. The course supports learners to use simple sentences to talk about familiar topics such as home, family, daily routines, work, interests and community life. Learners practise asking and answering questions, expressing preferences and sharing short personal experiences in a clear and meaningful way.

Throughout the course, learners take part in practical speaking activities including pair discussions, role play, listening tasks and small group conversations. These activities help learners build confidence using everyday vocabulary, improve their pronunciation and develop clearer communication strategies. Learners also practise listening for key information, responding appropriately and using simple techniques to keep a conversation going, such as asking follow up questions or giving short explanations.

Visual prompts, real life scenarios and guided dialogues help learners connect new language to their daily lives and feel more comfortable speaking in different situations. The course also encourages learners to participate more actively in group discussions and to build confidence speaking with new people.

By the end of the course, learners will feel more confident using simple sentences in everyday conversations and will be ready to progress to Entry 3 conversation classes or other ESOL courses or start their entry 2 ESOL Skills for Life qualification pathways.
