Course description

Language for Work (Pre‑Entry) helps adult learners develop the essential English skills needed for everyday workplace communication. Building on early confidence, the course introduces simple speaking, listening, reading and writing tasks that reflect real‑life work situations. Learners practise short conversations, follow simple instructions, recognise common workplace signs and complete basic written tasks such as writing their name or simple key words.

The course uses practical, interactive activities such as role‑play, matching tasks, picture‑based discussions and short listening exercises. Learners explore everyday workplace routines, simple job roles and basic expectations such as safety, punctuality and communication with colleagues. The focus is on helping learners understand and use familiar language in a supportive, low‑pressure environment.

Learners also develop strategies for communication, such as asking for repetition, checking understanding and using visual cues. The course helps learners build confidence, develop independence and prepare for the next stage of ESOL learning.

By the end of the course, learners will feel more comfortable using English in simple workplace situations and will be ready to progress to Beginners Language for Work (Entry 1).
