The course supports learners to describe personal experiences, understand how life in the UK works and communicate more independently in familiar situations.

Course description

ESOL for Life in the UK is designed for learners who want to improve their English while gaining a clearer understanding of everyday life, services and traditions in the UK. The course introduces essential vocabulary and simple language structures to help learners recognise key public services such as schools, GP surgeries, hospitals, libraries and local councils. Learners explore how these services work and practise using basic English to describe their own experiences, such as visiting a doctor or attending a school meeting.

The course also introduces common UK celebrations and public holidays, including how and when they are celebrated. Learners take part in matching activities, short reading tasks and guided discussions to build confidence using new vocabulary. They practise talking about rights, responsibilities and daily routines using simple phrases and sentences suitable for Entry 1–Entry 2 levels.

Activities are practical and supportive, helping learners build confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing while developing cultural awareness. By the end of the course, learners will feel more prepared to communicate in everyday situations, understand key aspects of life in the UK and progress to further ESOL study.
