Course overview
Course description
This course is for you if you want to build strong, confident and sustainable community organisations. It gives you a clear understanding of the essential skills and structures that help groups grow, stay safe, and make a lasting difference. You’ll explore the basics of governance, strategic planning and fundraising, and learn how these elements support long term stability.
You’ll also develop practical skills in managing money, creating simple but effective policies, and building safe, fair ways of working with staff and volunteers. The course looks at equality, diversity and inclusion, helping you understand why inclusive practice matters and how it enables community organisations to better reflect and serve local people.
You’ll learn how to build useful networks, communicate clearly with your community and partners, and share your organisation’s story in an engaging way. As the course progresses, you’ll grow more confident in involving residents, supporting community decision making, and building a sense of local ownership.
The final part of the course focuses on sustainability—helping you think ahead, plan for risks and understand what keeps a community organisation strong over time.
By the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge and tools to create a resilient organisation rooted in community needs and strengths.
