Art Practical: Hands on - Painting and Craft and the Animal World

The Animal World is our theme to explore a range of craft, drawing and painting techniques and materials. We will look at how different cultures through time and across the world portray animals and experiment with creating work in these different styles. We will create a small mosaic for an indoor setting, an animal themed monoprint or print with foamboard and use air dry materials such as Fimo modelling clay to create a small 3D artwork. We will also use a range of different mediums; such as pastels or acrylic paint to create a drawing or painting. This is a friendly and supportive group, offering a space for experimentation.

‘Habitat’ is our theme to explore a range of drawing and painting techniques and materials. Topics covered will include Blanket Bog, rivers, heathland, moorland, hedgerows and waterways of the UK, and excursions to jungle habitat, giving us the opportunity to experiment with rendering different textures of plants as well as animal hair, feathers, shiny beetles and transparent wings. Art Practical: Mixed Media Collage

We will learn how to make Mixed Media Collage art that is unique and experimental, using collage including torn and cut paper, printed materials, chalk pastels, watercolour, and acrylics. Advice will be given on materials on the course, but please have some magazines/printed material to cut up for the first session and a glue stick plus sketching paper (minimum 170g/m) and pencil/charcoal.
