Running from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th November 2025, the week is a rallying call to individuals, communities, and organisations to champion the power of learning at every stage of life. In this blog, we will share why learning is so important, and how you can get involved. (Visit the official website here).

What is Get the Nation Learning week?

Led by the Learning and Work Institute, Get the Nation Learning Week is part of a wider campaign to reverse the decline in adult education and build a culture where learning is a lifelong habit. The week features:

  • Events and workshops across the UK
  • Stories from learners and educators
  • The release of the Adult Participation in Learning Survey 2025
  • Community organisations can sign the Get the Nation Learning Charter

It is a chance to celebrate the impact of learning and call for renewed investment in adult education.

Whether it is picking up a new skill, returning to study, or simply exploring something new, this week is all about making learning visible, accessible, and valued.

Why lifelong learning matters

At WEA, we believe learning is for everyone. Lifelong learning:

  • Boosts employment prospects and helps people adapt to change
  • Improves mental health and wellbeing
  • Strengthens communities by building confidence and connection
  • Drives economic growth by closing skills gaps and supporting innovation

Whether it is learning English, gaining digital skills, or exploring creative arts, adult education opens doors – it is important we keep highlighting the benefits of adult learning, not just this week, but every week.

Government cuts to adult education

Over the last two decades, investment and participation in adult learning have declined substantially - falling by two-thirds, from £5.1 billion in the early 2000s to £1.7 billion in 2023–24.

Earlier this year, the Department for Education (DfE) announced a further 6% cut to the Adult Skills Fund (ASF), meaning thousands of people in England will no longer be able to access the adult education they deserve to support them to get on in life.

How can you help?

By letting decision makers know about the transformative impact adult learning has individually and in our communities, and to stop the government from cutting it further, please consider contacting your MP – request that your MP writes to the Chancellor of the Exchequer to demand that the cuts to the Adult Skills Fund are reversed, and that adult learning is protected and invested in. You can find your MP here and we’ve also put together a helpful guidance template which you can find here.

Join the Movement: Sign the Charter

As part of Get the Nation Learning Week, community organisations, employers, and education providers can sign the Get the Nation Learning Charter. It is a simple but powerful commitment to:

  • Make learning more inclusive and accessible
  • Champion lifelong learning in your community
  • Share best practice and collaborate with others

You can sign the charter here and help build a future where everyone has the chance to learn.
