Jane Williams

Tutor

After thirty years working as a computer programmer, Jane made the bold decision to change direction completely and turn her lifelong curiosity and love for learning into a career. For nearly ten years she has been teaching with the WEA, delighting in the fact that she can talk to potential new friends about subjects she has loved since childhood. Her interests are proudly eclectic: history, mythology, historical reenactment, a wide range of crafts, cookery, fantasy fiction, poetry, languages, birdwatching, and anything else where a good story can be found.

Jane’s teaching journey began facetoface and has gradually moved online, where she now finds the WEA Learn style suits her perfectly. She delivers short, lighthearted talks with a sense of humour, always designed to be accessible to all, even those with no previous knowledge. While she could be very academic if required (and once survived being compared to an Oxford professor, which as a Cambridge graduate, she took as an insult), her priority is clarity, enjoyment, and confidence-building. Sessions are supported by slides, and learners receive a PDF copy afterwards so they can revisit the material at their leisure.
