Dr. Abbie Cairns

Dr Abbie Cairns is an artist-teacher-researcher whose work explores contemporary approaches to art, visual culture and creative practice. Alongside her own research and artistic projects, she teaches across higher education and adult learning, supporting learners and participants to engage confidently with art and ideas.

As an educator, Abbie is passionate about making art appreciation and visual analysis accessible, engaging and relevant to everyday experience. Her teaching combines clear historical context with open discussion, encouraging participants to share perspectives and develop their own interpretations.

When delivering talks and courses for WEA Learn, Dr Cairns creates a welcoming and thought-provoking learning environment. Sessions are designed to be interactive and conversational, with carefully selected images and materials provided in advance where appropriate to support reflection and discussion before and after each session.
