Derek Robinson
Tutor
Derek Robinson’s fascination with Spain began at the age of 11, when he first started learning Spanish. What initially started as a school subject soon developed into a lifelong passion, deepened over the years through frequent visits and a sustained interest in the country’s rich and complex history.
He is particularly intrigued by Spain’s relatively recent past—a nation that, within living memory, emerged from dictatorship, a period marked by isolationism and restrictions on personal freedoms, including women’s rights. This historical transformation continues to shape his perspective and teaching.
Since 2013, Derek Robinson has been a tutor with the WEA, where he has shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with adult learners. Over the years, he has delivered a popular course exploring the history of Spain across different periods, alongside a guide to the country’s diverse regions.
Reflecting on his work, Derek Robinson sees it as an exciting opportunity to develop courses on various aspects of Spanish history for WEA Learn, and he hopes that his enthusiasm will be conveyed to all students.
