While working as a carer Favour was struggling with writing up reports in English, so she enrolled on an ESOL course with the WEA.

Her English speaking and listening skills were good when speaking to those in her care. However, she was finding it difficult to write up details in English in the care notes, and when she was needing to study for work.

“I found it difficult because you have to do a lot of study, with a lot of courses to read and understand. You need to write a lot of reports, in case of accidents etc.

“I was finding this difficult, so I needed to improve my education. I’m now doing English to improve my reading and writing, in order to improve my job.”

The WEA creates time for you to be better – what they want is for you to grow and grab what you are here for.”

As well as learning English with the WEA, Favour’s also made many new friends on her course.

“My experience has been so very nice, meeting different people. And the most important thing is my teacher for being patient. It’s not easy, but she’s really patient with us!”

She said her WEA tutor makes the learning very personal, makes good use of assessments to understand the level learners are working at, and assists everyone in what they need.

“I would recommend the WEA for a friend or family because they are very nice at teaching. They create time for you to be better – what they want is for you to grow and grab what you are here for.”
