Alongside care-specific learning, you’ll sharpen your CV, job application, and interview skills with expert guidance. On completion, our dedicated Step Into Care work coach will arrange a working interview in a real care setting, giving you the chance to step confidently into your future.

When you’re studying maths at school, it’s sometimes hard to see how you’ll use the skills in real life. All it takes is for someone to explain that ratios help you compare the prices of different products, percentages are used to split bills, and multiplication and division help you set a monthly budget. When you learn in context, it’s easy to see how functional maths is. This Functional Skills Maths Level 2 course is designed using real-life examples to help you improve your maths skills. If you find it easier to learn maths with practical examples, this is the course for you. Functional Skills qualifications are free if you don't already have a GCSE in English or Maths at grades A*-C, or 4-9. We'll check your level and any previous qualifications before you start. This ensures you are on the correct course.

This course is funded by the North East Combined Authority and only available to residents living within the North East Combined Authority area. Are you bilingual? Ever thought about using your language skills to help out in the community? Did you know you can get many jobs with languages? If you speak English and another language fluently, you could make a great community interpreter. This community interpreter course gives you an introduction to the language and interpreting skills needed for this type of work. It can teach you foundational concepts to test your community interpreting skills informally with family or friends. This course can prepare you to help members of your family or community to overcome language barriers in their everyday lives. It can also help you decide if you’re interested in pursuing community interpreting jobs.

Build on basic reading skills with these ESOL classes. This is an English course for beginners. It is aimed at speakers of other languages. ESOL courses help you learn basic English for life in the UK and improve your chances of finding work or study options. This ESOL entry 2 reading course builds on skills you learnt at entry 1. Grow your vocabulary and improve your reading skills in English. There are also writing and speaking & listening courses at this level. If you’re helping others find ESOL courses in the UK, you’ve come to the right place.

The first session of this course will be online and the second session will be at Tate Britain. Join a creative writing online workshop writing poems about Tate Britain artworks, then visit Tate Britain to find your artworks and for more poetic inspiration with a published poet as your guide. You will meet up with those you met online on the morning before and respond to more art with further inspired writing. Ekphrastic poetry has come to mean poetry about works of art. You could describe the scene in a painting, what happened before, what happens after it and what is going on outside the frame; or write a monologue for the sitter in a portrait, or for the painter; or make a sculpture come to life. You will meet up with likeminded people and come away from this course with several inspired poems.
