This ESOL course teaches you skills to help you communicate verbally in English. It can support you in job interviews, social conversations, or in your studies. This ESOL level 1 speaking and listening course builds on skills you learnt at entry 3. Gain tools to help you in conversations and sharpen your listening skills. This is an English course for adults. It is aimed at speakers of other languages. ESOL classes are divided into three areas: reading, writing, and speaking & listening. This course is funded by the East Midlands Combined County Authority and is only available to residents living within the East Midlands Combined County Authority area. Practical English Skills (Entry 2) helps learners develop more confident English for everyday communication at home, in the community and in simple work‑related situations. The course builds on Entry 1 skills and introduces longer conversations, short texts and straightforward writing tasks. Learners practise giving information, asking questions, understanding short explanations and reading everyday materials such as notes, messages, leaflets and timetables. Activities focus on real‑life situations including making arrangements, asking for help, following instructions and talking about daily routines. The course supports learners to communicate with greater independence and prepares them for progression to Entry 3 ESOL.

Confidence for Creatives is a practical and reflective course designed to help you understand yourself, build essential employability skills, and grow as a confident creative thinker. Through activities such as the Shield of Life and exploring the 7 Elements of Society, you will identify personal barriers and consider how your life experiences shape who you are. You will develop key skills including communication, public speaking, problem‑solving, and CV writing, while learning the importance of assertive behaviour. The course concludes with creating a visual representation of your core values, helping you understand their impact and how they guide your future.

You will explore self-belief, communication skills, and practical ways to manage nerves and negative thinking. The course can be tailored to your goals—whether you are returning to work, preparing for interviews, starting a small business, or wanting to improve your self-esteem. You will take part in activities such as group discussions, goal setting, role play, and simple planning tasks. Step by step, you will build your confidence, share experiences, and celebrate your progress in a safe and encouraging environment. By the end of the course, you will leave with practical skills and a personal action plan to help you take your next steps.
