Preparation for Work in Hospitality is a welcoming and practical course designed for anyone interested in starting a career in cafés, restaurants or hotels. You will explore different job roles, customer service expectations and workplace behaviours. You’ll take part in activities that build confidence, communication and problem‑solving skills. You will also complete tasks such as reading rotas, understanding shift patterns, and working out menu prices. By the end of the course, you will have developed the skills and knowledge needed for hospitality roles and created a personal plan for your next steps.

Conversation with Cooking is a 12 session ESOL course designed to build confidence, wellbeing and communication skills through the theme of everyday cooking. Each two hour class focuses on speaking and listening activities where learners share cooking advice, explore healthy recipes and talk about food from different cultures. Learners practise useful vocabulary, follow simple instructions and take part in supportive conversations about ingredients, meal preparation and healthy eating. The course promotes social connection, confidence building and positive wellbeing by encouraging learners to share experiences, learn new dishes and enjoy communicating in English in a relaxed, friendly environment.

Learn basic communication skills with this ESOL speaking and listening course. This English course is for speakers of other languages. It will help you learn essential speaking and listening skills to be able to communicate in English. Entry 1 ESOL courses help people who are just starting to learn English. This course will help you gain confidence to speak about basic topics and understand core words. There are also reading and writing courses at this level. If you’re helping others access ESOL classes in the UK, you’ve come to the right place.

This course is funded by the East Midlands Combined County Authority and only available to residents living within the East Midlands Combined County Authority area. Language for Work (Pre‑Entry) supports adults who want to develop basic English for everyday workplace communication. The course builds on early confidence and introduces simple speaking, listening, reading and writing skills needed for entry‑level work environments. Learners practise short conversations, follow simple instructions and recognise key workplace vocabulary. Activities are practical, supportive and designed to help learners understand what communication looks like in real work settings. This course prepares learners for further ESOL study and progression to Beginners Language for Work (Entry 1).

You will explore self-belief, communication skills, and practical ways to manage nerves and negative thinking. The course can be tailored to your goals—whether you are returning to work, preparing for interviews, starting a small business, or wanting to improve your self-esteem. You will take part in activities such as group discussions, goal setting, role play, and simple planning tasks. Step by step, you will build your confidence, share experiences, and celebrate your progress in a safe and encouraging environment. By the end of the course, you will leave with practical skills and a personal action plan to help you take your next steps.

English Conversation (Pre Entry) is a gentle introduction to speaking and listening for adults who are new to learning English. The course focuses on building confidence, recognising familiar words, and taking part in short, supported conversations. Learners practise simple greetings, everyday phrases and basic listening tasks in a relaxed, friendly environment. Activities use pictures, real life objects and guided practice to help learners communicate in familiar situations. This course is ideal for learners who need reassurance, confidence building and a positive first step before progressing to an Entry 1 ESOL level course such as English For Everyday Life.
