WEA courses

This 12‑hour course introduces adults to the key principles of safeguarding children and young people. Across six 2‑hour sessions, learners explore how to recognise signs of abuse or neglect, understand their responsibilities, and respond appropriately when concerns arise. The course covers types of harm, safe professional boundaries, online safety, early help, and how to report or escalate concerns. Through discussion, case studies and practical scenarios, learners build confidence in identifying risks, supporting children’s wellbeing, and knowing what actions to take to keep children and young people safe.

This course is course designed for adults with little or no experience using technology. Learners will explore the basics of digital devices. The course introduces essential skills such as recognising common digital symbols, understanding hardware components and using a keyboard and a mouse confidently. Learners will practise connecting devices securely to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and learn internet safety tips. With hands-on activities and clear guidance, this course builds confidence and prepares learners for further digital learning in a supportive environment.

Continue developing English skills to help you in work and everyday life situations. This functional skills English entry 2 course teaches you skills for reading, writing, and communicating in English. Learn how to improve your writing skills and build on the basic reading skills from entry 1. Adult English courses teach you practical communication skills to help you get a job or study. Develop your English skills through real-life situations. This course teaches you tools and resources to improve your use of English in new and familiar situations. These skills can help you succeed in your studies, professional situations, and social interactions. This is a government-funded accredited English course for adults. Functional Skills qualifications are free if you don't already have a GCSE in English or Maths at grades A*-C, or 4-9. We'll check your level and any previous qualifications before you start. This ensures you are on the correct course.

You will practise opening links, viewing short learning videos, and completing guided online activities using familiar devices. The course covers basic navigation skills, recognising key onscreen symbols, typing short answers, and using simple features like play/pause and zoom. You will explore safe behaviour online and learn how to ask for help when unsure.

Applying for jobs can feel overwhelming, especially if you're not used to doing it online. Thankfully, there are simple digital tools that make the process easier, and you can access them right from your smartphone. This course helps you build the skills to search and apply for jobs using your smartphone. You’ll learn how to upload your CV, write a cover letter specific to a job role, use the basics of AI and apply for a job role using your smartphone. This course is designed for beginners and offers step-by-step guidance in a supportive environment.

Learn basic communication skills with this ESOL speaking and listening course. This English course is for speakers of other languages. It will help you learn essential speaking and listening skills to be able to communicate in English. Entry 1 ESOL courses help people who are just starting to learn English. This course will help you gain confidence to speak about basic topics and understand core words. There are also reading and writing courses at this level.
