WEA courses

This course is funded by the Department for Education and only open to residents living in non devolved authorities.  This short course will help you build the digital skills needed for everyday working life. You will learn how to use your smartphone, tablet or computer to communicate professionally using email and workplace messaging tools such as Teams. The course will also show you how to stay safe online by creating secure passwords and recognising trusted websites. You will practise organising important documents, such as certificates, and sharing them correctly. In addition, you will develop your ability to research workplace information independently. By the end of the course, you will feel more confident using digital tools for communication and completing tasks in a work environment.

This five-day course equips learners with the essential skills, confidence, and mindset required to prepare to enter the workplace. You will explore everyday workplace rights such as pay, breaks, holiday and contracts, using real-life examples to help build your confidence. The second session looks at staying safe and being treated fairly, including health and safety, equality, and discrimination. You will also focus on what to do if something goes wrong at work and who can help.

This course helps you understand your mental health and learn simple, practical ways to look after yourself. You will explore what mental health means using clear NHS guidance, and you will talk about common issues like stress, anxiety, and low mood. You will try easy self help tools such as breathing exercises, grounding techniques, and short wellbeing activities recommended by the NHS. You will also learn how to spot early warning signs, choose small everyday actions that improve your mood, and find safe, trusted sources of support. By the end of the course, you will feel more confident using practical skills to manage your own mental health.

You will explore everyday situations that can cause problems at work, such as making a mistake, not understanding instructions or needing help. You will learn how to stay calm and communicate respectfully. You will practise responding to problems in a positive way. The course ends with a supportive workplace scenario, allowing you to demonstrate your learning and build confidence for starting or returning to work.

This Everyday Baking for Wellbeing course supports adults to improve their wellbeing through simple, enjoyable baking activities. Learners explore everyday baking tools, ingredients and routines that promote confidence, calm and positive mental health. Each session includes a practical baking task, opportunities to talk about memories and favourite foods, and gentle wellbeing activities that encourage connection and relaxation. The course is suitable for all adults and provides clear demonstrations and visual support. Activities focus on participation, enjoyment and building confidence through shared baking experiences.

Maths for Creative Crafts is a practical Entry Level course that builds confidence in everyday maths through hands-on creative projects. Over 6 sessions, you will develop essential numeracy skills including measuring accurately, calculating quantities and costs, working with shapes, managing a simple budget, and planning time. Each session links a maths skill directly to a craft activity, helping learners see how maths supports planning, design and decision-making. Delivered in a supportive and inclusive environment, the course encourages discussion, practice and step-by-step learning. By the end of the course, learners will feel more confident applying maths in creative work and everyday life.

You will look at the different parts of a CV, such as your personal details, skills, work and/or volunteering experience. You will think about your own strengths and the things you are good at. You will practise writing short sentences about yourself and your experience. The course will also help you understand what employers want to see on a CV and how to present your information clearly. By the end of the course, you will have created your own CV that you can use when applying for jobs, courses, or volunteering opportunities. You will also feel more confident talking about your skills and experience. You will look at the different parts of a CV, such as your personal details, skills, work and/or volunteering experience. You will think about your own strengths and the things you are good at. You will practise writing short sentences about yourself and your experience. This course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority and is only available to residents living within the West Midlands Combined Authority area. English for Work and Study (Level 1) develops the language and study skills needed for more advanced communication in work, education and community settings. Learners practise taking part in extended discussions, understanding detailed explanations, reading longer texts and writing structured paragraphs. The course builds confidence in using English independently and accurately. Activities focus on real‑life tasks such as problem‑solving, presenting information, interpreting documents and writing for different purposes. This course prepares learners for Level 2 ESOL or further study.
