Knowing your Community and Accessing Services (Home Office)

This course is funded by Greater Lincolnshire Combined Authority and is only open to residents living in the Greater Lincolnshire Combined Authority area. This course introduces essential English for understanding and using key community services. Learners identify local services such as doctors, schools, libraries and council offices, and recognise common signs and symbols used in public places. They practise using simple phrases to ask for help, make appointments and give basic information. Learners explore simple safety messages related to road use, family wellbeing and emergencies, and follow basic instructions for everyday tasks such as registering with a GP, paying bills or using a library. Through practical activities and short conversations, learners build confidence accessing services independently and prepare for progression to Entry 3.

You will gain confidence in using laptops and other digital devices, keeping devices updated, and applying basic security settings. You will also learn to create and manage documents using Word, access Microsoft 365, download apps safely and set up and use email effectively. The course also covers browsers, websites, and online safety, including recognising scams and protecting passwords. Finally, you will explore secure online transactions and payment methods, ensuring you can navigate the digital world safely and independently.
