Literature: The World of John Donne

During this 6 week course, we will chart John Donne’s sometimes ambiguous journey through the febrile world of late sixteenth and early seventeenth century England. We will explore his poetry and prose and place it in the context of his age, while evaluating his position as one of the greatest poets in the English tradition. As we follow his journey through London and the Court, and from love poet to preacher, we will discuss social conditions, politics, religion and art of the period. Donne’s poems and prose will be published on Canvas. There is no need to buy a text.

Psychology: Introduction to Animal Training with Trust

An introduction to an alternative approach to dog training which focuses on the human-dog relationship, the level of trust therein, good communication skills and the quality of the bond created. Human- canine training relationships have traditionally focused on such things as dominance hierarchies, rewards and punishments, species separation, food based rewards and comparison to wolf pack behaviours. In more recent years these approaches have been replaced by more innovative and evidence based approaches which have good observational skills, observance of family values, age- appropriate training, maturation and relationship quality at their core.
