Learners explore key counselling approaches, ethical frameworks and the impact of diversity, while developing the ability to use counselling skills responsibly in a range of settings.

Course description

This accredited Level 3 Diploma is ideal for learners who want to build a strong foundation in counselling skills and understanding. The course introduces the main theoretical approaches to counselling and explores how counselling skills can be used ethically and appropriately within a variety of roles and contexts.

Learners will develop practical counselling skills such as listening, responding, questioning and reflecting, alongside an understanding of professional boundaries, referral processes and ethical frameworks. The qualification places strong emphasis on self‑reflection and personal development, helping learners understand how their own values and experiences influence interactions with others. The course also explores counselling skills in relation to diversity and equality, supporting learners to practice in an inclusive and non‑judgemental way. Assessment is through written assignments, reflective work and simulated skills practice, meaning no work placement is required.

This qualification does not enable learners to practise as counsellors but is widely recognised as an essential progression route towards higher‑level counselling training or roles where advanced communication and interpersonal skills are required.
