Course overview
Course description
Maths for Everyday Life is a 24-hour, non-accredited Entry Level course designed to help learners develop practical numeracy skills for real-life situations. It is particularly suitable for learners working at Entry 1–2 level, with some progression into Entry 3 skills, providing a supportive introduction to using maths with confidence.
Delivered over 12 two-hour sessions, the course covers key areas including number skills, the four operations, money management, time, and basic measurement. Learners will be introduced to simple fractions (such as ½ and ¼) and recognise basic percentages (such as 50% and 25%) through practical, everyday examples.
You will apply these skills in familiar contexts such as comparing prices, managing a simple budget, understanding basic bills, reading simple timetables (e.g. daily schedules or transport times), and measuring quantities. Activities are structured and supportive, with clear explanations, step-by-step guidance, and opportunities to practise and repeat skills.
By the end of the course, you will feel more confident using maths in everyday tasks and be better prepared to progress to further maths learning, employment training, or accredited Functional Skills Maths courses.
