Course description
Foundations in Working in Early Years, Schools and Colleges gives you a clear introduction to three key education sectors. It’s designed to support you if you’re exploring career options or preparing to move into an educational support role. The course helps you understand what it’s like to work in early years settings, primary and secondary schools, and further education colleges, showing you the different expectations, environments, and learner needs in each area.
The course focuses on how children and young people develop. You’ll look at physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development and learn how these processes unfold at different ages. This understanding will help you use effective support strategies in real learning environments. You’ll also learn about essential professional responsibilities, including safeguarding, health and safety, teamwork, clear role boundaries, and how to help maintain safe, inclusive spaces for all learners.
Throughout the course, you’ll develop effective communication skills so you can build positive relationships with children, young people, families, and colleagues. You’ll explore the importance of play in early years education, how classroom support works in schools, and how support roles adapt as learners become more independent in college settings.
