Course overview

This course is funded by the Department for Education and only open to residents living in non devolved authorities. This course is course designed for adults with little or no experience using technology. Learners will explore the basics of digital devices. The course introduces essential skills such as recognising common digital symbols, understanding hardware components and using a keyboard and a mouse confidently. Learners will practise connecting devices securely to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and learn internet safety tips. With hands-on activities and clear guidance, this course builds confidence and prepares learners for further digital learning in a supportive environment.

Course description

Do you want to feel more confident using technology? This friendly, supportive course is designed especially for adults who are new to digital devices and want to build their skills at a comfortable pace. Whether you’ve never used a smartphone, tablet, or computer before, or you just want to understand the basics better, this course will guide you step by step.

Throughout the course, you will learn how to use digital devices for everyday tasks. We will explore how to connect to Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth and personal hotspots, and what the most common icons and symbols mean. You’ll also have plenty of time to practise using these features on your own device so you feel more confident using them independently.

We will cover essential digital skills such as using a keyboard and mouse, navigating touchscreens, creating secure passwords, and setting up screen locks. You will also learn important tips for staying safe online and keeping your device protected.

No previous experience is required. This course is a welcoming and encouraging way to begin your digital journey, increase your confidence and develop valuable skills for everyday life and work
