Budgeting Skills (Home Office)

Budgeting Skills (Home Office) is designed for Entry 1–Entry 2 ESOL learners who are new to managing money in the UK and want to build confidence with everyday financial tasks. The course introduces key household expenses such as rent, food, travel and utility bills, helping learners understand the basic costs involved in daily life. Learners become familiar with UK coins, notes and payment methods, including cash, card and contactless, and practise using simple vocabulary to talk about money, shopping and bills.

Reading tasks focus on understanding everyday financial documents such as receipts, simple utility bills and basic statements. Learners explore the difference between needs and wants and take part in practical activities to help them track simple spending and make informed choices. Group discussions and paired tasks support vocabulary development and build confidence in talking about money in a supportive environment.

By the end of the course, learners will feel more comfortable managing small budgets, recognising key financial information and understanding the basic steps involved in everyday money management in the UK. The course provides a foundation for further ESOL or financial skills learning.
