Course overview
Course description
Life and Work in the UK is designed for learners who are new to the UK and need practical English language support to manage everyday situations and early work related tasks. The course introduces key aspects of UK life, including how to access healthcare, understand school systems, use local services, manage appointments and recognise important public information. Learners explore basic workplace expectations such as punctuality, simple health and safety rules, appropriate behaviour and common job related routines.
The course develops essential ESOL vocabulary and simple language structures to help learners ask for information, understand instructions and communicate their needs in familiar situations. Reading and writing tasks include interpreting appointment letters, workplace notices, timetables and basic forms. Learners also practise describing personal experiences of living or working in the UK using short, clear sentences.
Activities include role play, pair work, guided discussions, matching tasks and practical scenarios that connect directly to learners’ real lives. The course builds confidence, cultural understanding and independence, helping learners feel more prepared to participate in their community and take early steps towards employment or further ESOL study.
