The students will be involved in various activities that support the subject with the emphasis on nostalgia and remembering their own experiences. The tasks will be developed using discussions and the sharing of views and opinions which will improve social techniques. The workshop will also aim to improve art skills. Part of the WEA Art and About Festival 2024! Art in the Olympic (North) Park Walking Tour explores the public artworks in the north side of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It is the first Olympic Park to integrate artworks into the landscape right from the start by established and emerging artists, international and local, which reflects the Park’s identity, and the first to have an artist-in-residence during its construction. Discover artworks that are both large and striking, whilst others are smaller and harder to find, inspired by the undulating landscape, riverside, buried histories, community memories, and Olympic glory. The meeting point is Copper Box Arena on Waterden Rd.

This inspiring workshop invites participants to explore the vibrant world of animal artistry through watercolour and mixed media techniques. Throughout the course, you'll be guided through the process of capturing the essence and character of animals in your artwork. With expert instruction, you'll learn to use line, tone, texture, and colour to bring your chosen animal portrait to life in a unique and expressive way.

The group will participate in activities and art work that illustrate those themes. The students will be involved in different activities to encourage increased knowledge about the subjects. The tasks will be supported by discussions and the sharing of views. The workshop will also develop art skills and foster good social skills. The culmination of the workshop will be to produce practical tasks that illustrate the various themes covered.

Phonetography Workshop – take better photos! Taking photos with our mobile phone has become our go-to way to capture special moments. This workshop will give you tips and tricks to start getting the pictures you want. Photographs of your children or grandchildren, your pets, your blossoming summer garden – start capturing the things you look at every day and enjoy for longer the wonderful things around you by capturing them digitally on your device. With the help of our experienced tutor, learn how to compose good shots, how to use your camera in different ways to bring variety to your photographs and see how you can share them. Join us for this useful workshop and gain confidence in digital 'phonetography' in a mutually supportive learning environment.

African Drumming Workshop A great way to end the working week! Whether you are a seasoned drummer or just curious to have a go, this practical workshop in African drumming will inspire you with music and culture. Our experienced tutor will guide the group to play the Djembe drums to create simple beats and harmonies. Let go of stress and end the week on a high note!

If you would like to learn how to use creative writing to support your wellbeing and are interested in developing skills to express your thoughts and feelings, then this friendly and supportive course is perfect for you. Creative writing is an effective and rewarding way to develop your self-expression and a great way to make space and time for personal reflection. It can enable you to re-connect with both your creativity and learning. It has been shown that exploring creativity with words can help us gain insight and perspective on our lives and can build confidence and stimulate problem solving. During this friendly and supportive course, you will learn some different approaches, prompts and techniques to write poetry for wellbeing.

*Please note that this isa course exclusively for residents living in a West Sussex postcode area - please do not apply if you do not live in West Sussex. Thanks for your understanding.* We will be cooking together in real time, making a variety of dishes, with advice and ideas on how to change the quantities to suit the number of people you are cooking for. We will look at ways of cooking and baking for one or two, or enough for a party. We shall be measuring ingredients and there will be time to find out about all the different ways measurements are written in recipes, so you can cook with confidence. Recipes will be put on Canvas before the course begins, so you can go shopping if you are going to cook along with me. All questions are welcome during the session, novice cooks are welcome along with those who have more experience and we will share ideas. Outcome: Double and halve the quantities in a recipe using metric and imperial measures while cooking a variety of dishes.
