Course overview

To participate in discussions about holidays and to express ideas with practical tasks and art work. This workshop will provide the students with information both written and visual that help them to explore different aspects relating to the subject of holidays. The students will be involved in various activities that support the subject with the emphasis on nostalgia and remembering their own experiences. The tasks will be developed using discussions and the sharing of views and opinions which will improve social techniques. The workshop will also aim to improve art skills. Session to take place Monday 29th July 10:00am- 14:00pm

Course description

This art-based workshop will look at the subject of holidays. It will provide opportunities for the student to express their ideas through group work and also with individual tasks. Find out about the history of holidays and when the idea of having a holiday first appeared. Learn that the concept of holidays was one that only wealthy people could indulge in. Where did these people go on their holidays and what was the purpose of them? When did holidays become more accessible to everyone else? Discover more about the new transport systems that allowed people to get to their holiday destinations. Examine which type of holidays are popular now and if this has changed through the decades. A main emphasis of the workshop will be to remember past holidays and share memories about them with the group. Be involved in discussions about holiday experiences and use this information to produce art work. The theme of nostalgia will support and influence the practical tasks. These tasks will illustrate the different aspects of the workshops themes. The aim will be to encourage discussion and memories which will be shared and then developed into opportunities to be creative and expressive.

Outcome: To be able to discuss, remember and illustrate holiday memories.
