Philosophy: Behind the Headlines

This workshop provides students with the opportunity to discuss news stories which they have chosen to focus on as well as news items introduced by the tutor. The tutor will facilitate discussion and relate this to ideas from Philosophy. If you are interested in exploring different responses to headline stories please join us. The workshop does not require any previous experience in Philosophy. Key ideas will be introduced by the tutor ranging from famous quotations to theories developed in political and moral philosophy. Resources, ranging from podcasts to newspaper articles, will be used by the tutor to develop our understanding of both philosophical ideas and issues in current affairs. The workshop is for both beginners and anyone who already has any experience in this subject. The day will involve a variety of topics and philosophical concepts. Agreement with the philosophy presented is not required just a willingness to engage or listen to discussion in the group. There will be a 1 hour break for lunch.
