Course overview

This intermediate to advanced course will help you to communicate your ideas in English on a range of everyday topics. You will practice reading, writing, speaking and listening, with a focus on conversation skills. You will also learn new vocabulary, improve your pronunciation, and start to learn about basic English grammar, including present, future and past tenses as well as present perfect. You will work with other learners at a similar level and be expected to take part in pair and group activities in the classroom. This course is ideal for English Language learners with some level of confidence and experience in speaking and understanding English. You will be in a mixed group of intermediate to advanced learners and will have the opportunity to practice your English in a number of different situations.

Course description

This is an English course for speakers of other languages. On this course, you will learn to: Talk about yourself, your likes and dislikes, express opinions; Ask questions about personal information and opinions; Talk about everyday topics like, going to the doctor, going to the supermarket and getting around your city- for example, taking the bus; Use everyday vocabulary with input with pronunciation; Use the present tense to talk about what you do everyday, the past tense to talk about what you did before now and the future tense to talk about what you will do next week, next month. Before you can enroll on this course, you will do a skills check to make sure that you are on the right course. For the course, you will need an internet connection to study this course as you will need to access Canvas, our digital learning platform. This platform is used for homework, resources and classroom activities. You will need to use your phone in class to access Canvas and you should also bring a notebook and a pen/pencil to take notes. This is a great opportunity to get yourself 'on the books' with the WEA. Once enrolled you will have the opportunity to apply for a number of different ESOL / English and other courses.

We don't want anything to stand in your way when it comes to bringing Adult learning within reach so if you need anything to support you to achieve your goals then speak to one of our education experts during your enrolment journey. Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need.
