WEA courses

This twelve week course, where you will develop your understanding of the mental health continuum and the characteristics of the common mental health conditions. As well as, where to get signpost people for the appropriate support to support the individual through their mental health needs. Each week we will have a theme, that builds your knowledge around the mental health continuum and the common mental health conditions, for example, stress, anxiety, depression and OCD. At the end of the course, you will have created a poster of where you could signpost individuals who require some support with their mental health.

We will discuss four novels, published between 1954 and 1961, and think about whether they have stood the test of time. Much of this period has been labelled as the decade of The Angry Young Men. We will be thinking about what that means, and whether any of these four novels belong in that grouping as we look, in detail, at The Tortoise and the Hare, by Elizabeth Jenkins; Lucky Jim, by Kingsley Amis; The Ballad of Peckham Rye by Muriel Spark and A Severed Head, by Iris Murdoch. We will consider how these writers present society.

Would you like to practice your English speaking and listening? Our Gloucester conversation club provides an informal, welcoming space for adult ESOL learners to practice their English, build confidence and develop social connections. Each session will be in a friendly, relaxed safe space and led by an experienced tutor. Learners will be encouraged to use their English and gentle tasks such as using questions will be used to facilitate this. Drinks will be provided throughout and learners will be given full support to explore their next steps within the WEA.

This is the next stage course for the current online learners to continue their online ESOL classes. During the course you will continue to learn advanced English that will help you better explore and take part in your local community and to help build your employability skills for work. Before you can join the course, your English skills will be checked with a short test so that the tutor can make sure that the class is right for you. This course is for people with intermediate to advanced English. You do not need any ESOL qualifications to join.

During this twelve week mindfulness intermediate course, the learners will have the opportunity to experience to build on their mindful knowledge and techniques to reduce their stress levels and improve their general wellbeing, for example mindful breathing, mindful brain, and mindful activities. A few minutes a day paying attention to yourself and letting yourself have a calming moment within your busy lives and performing everyday tasks in a different mindful way can reduce your stress levels and increase your inner calm state.

These intermediate Spanish lessons will boost your language skills so you feel comfortable communicating in everyday situations.
